It’s no secret that tourists flock to Florida each and every year.  Unfortunately, the huge influx of vacationers can contribute to serious—even fatal—accidents on the road.  As Floridians, tourism is a normal part of everyday life.  However, no time is busier for vacationers in the Sunshine State than the month of March.

Spring break is mostly responsible for the influx of vacationers and tourists moving about the State in the month of March.  Whether it is children and families heading to one of the many theme parks or spring breakers and college kids looking to have a good time on the beach, Florida sees a surge of vacationers in March.

For many of the spring breakers escaping the realities of college or the northern cold, alcohol and sunshine make for a disastrous cocktail.  There is nothing worse than a vacation being cut short because a friend or loved on is injured or killed while on the trip.

While the scenery is beautiful, vacationers (who mostly travel on foot) need to be extra careful as they are wounded at a much higher rate than those in cars.  When vacationing in Miami, Florida and moving about it is imperative to be aware of your surroundings at all times.

Helpful Tips While Vacationing in Florida

  • Most Floridians are nice people.  However, we are a commuter state where people are constantly driving to and from through hellish traffic.  Not to mention, distractions with smartphones have our attention at an all-time low.  Tip: Don’t assume that drivers will stop and yield to you simply because you are in a crosswalk.
• If you can help it, take advantage or ride sharing options such as Uber and Lyft.  Traditional Taxi cabs work too if you are unsure where you are going or are planning to drink.
  • Cross the street ONLY when you are told to do so by the signals and know you can make it in time.

Traffic accidents are an extremely unfortunate reality for many people on vacation.  Hopefully these tips will help keep you safe during your time in Florida.  If you or someone you love is injured in a Florida accident while on vacation, we can help.

We understand it can be stressful to deal with the travel arrangements, schedules, and itineraries on top of dealing with an accident.  That’s why I try to make this as easy and as comfortable as possible.
